Caterpillar Club

Dear Caterpillar,

You’re about to enter into your cocoon as you embark on this journey in your fight against cancer. As you enter your cocoon you may not know who you are or where you’re going. All you know is that every fiber of your being is calling for transformation. For disruption. For revolution of the spirit.

Surrender.

Let us band together so we can witness each others rebirth because just when the caterpillar thought the world was over… it became a butterfly.

Why:

It all began with the idea of bringing together all of the children in 6th Tower at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital who felt excluded from the world, from activities, and from seeing people like them once they stepped out of the hospital.

The first time Logan was diagnosed we mostly kept to ourselves. We felt like we were taking all the right steps to build the support system he needed at home, and it worked. But all along, no matter how much we adjusted and gave, something was missing… someone like him… a mirror of sorts.

Someone he didn’t have to explain to, someone he didn’t have to try hard to fit in with, someone that didn’t have sympathy, but rather a mutual understanding.

He found it after his relapse and it felt like it all came together. We witnessed it. Logan flourished. While maintaining his innocence he grew and became more confident with every interaction. That’s what we are aiming to provide to every single caterpillar.

Membership levels:

The Caterpillars - These are the children fighting. TPOH will host a quarterly meeting for both inpatient and outpatients. The activities will be centered around a book posted on our website and social media outlets. This will include arts, crafts, music, yoga, and much more.

The honorary members- This includes children and adults that have made an impact in the lives of the caterpillars. We ask that our honorary members help us spread the word and/or volunteer at quarterly meetings.

“He was formally asked to join the Caterpillar Club and he happily accepted (it was the cutest thing to watch). He said he feels like a cool kid now, with his cool friend Logan.”
